What's happening?

There's always something happening at Linley Cove, so stay tuned to this page to find out the latest updates on important events - from Council Clean-ups to Christmas parties.

Please don't flush disposable wipes, nappies or sanitary products:
You've probably read how disposable wipes etc are clogging up the sewers in London; unfortunately it's happening in Linley Cove as well. These insidious wipes, nappies, and sanitary products don't breakdown in water, get trapped in our sewage pipes and, ultimately, cost us all a bomb to have them removed. So please, don't risk our maintenance money on something that can be avoided - only flush toilet paper and post-digested food.

Rubbish:
When putting things in the red-lid bins, please keep in mind that if the rubbish isn't completely in the bin and the lid down it will end up everywhere - curtesy of the local possums. If the bins in your bay are full, there will be others nearby that can take your bags - so please look around a bit. Also, when recycling, ensure your plastics, metals and paper products are placed in the correct recycle bins, as the Council has warned us that they risk not being emptied otherwise.

Waste collection and recycling:
If you'd like to offload of any items in between collections, or prevent them from going to landfill, there are a number of convenient, local options available:
  • Community Recycling Centre at 8 Waltham Street, Artarmon (located behind Bunnings) - this offers FREE drop off for problem waste, including paint, e-waste, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, motor and other oils, batteries, smoke detectors, globes, CD's, videos, x-rays and other items. Open Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm, Tuesday and Friday 8am to 2pm.
  • Reuse and repair co-operatives - such as The Bower (phone: 02 9568 6280), or Reverse Garbage (phone: 02 9569 3132).
  • Freecycle groups on Facebook. Go to facebook.com/groups/northsydneylowwaste
  • St Vinnies or Smith Family collection point, located at Birdwood Avenue, Lane Cove.

Pools:
All the pools are now open and available for a dip or two between 6am-10pm. Please remember, though, that anyone using the pools must be accompanied by an adult if they are under 16years of age. Also, anything glass is strictly prohibited.

10% Discount at Willoughby Glass:
The owners of Willoughby Glass are now residents in Linley Cove and are kindly offering everyone living in the complex a 10% discount on replacement or repair of windows, doors, shower screens, mirrors and more. Feel free to drop into the show room at 19/1-7 Short Street, Chatswood NSW 2067. Or call 9882 3648. Email: info@willoughbyglass.com.au.

Maintenance requests and personal details:
In January this year, we installed an MYBOS system to help streamline maintenance requests and keep resident info up to date. If you haven't received your login details for this system, please contact Superior Strata. If you would like to make a maintenance request, or need to update your personal details, please log on to login.mybos.com (preferably with Google Chrome) and enter your username and password. Or get full directions on using MYBOS here. If you are booking the tennis court, please use the booking sheet at the court itself. Thanks.

Want to renovate?
Please remember that you need to make your written request to Superior Strata for assessment first. It's only when you get a confirmation of approval that any work can begin. Also, remember it's important that you checkout your trades people first. If they aren't properly registered and have the necessary insurance cover, you will end up in paying for any costly mistakes. For more information, see Important Info.

New parking by-law:
During the last AGM, it was agreed to introduce a special by-law that allows the Owners Corporation to tow away any vehicle that breaches our current parking by-laws and restrictions - including vehicles of guests. If you have received a parking breach letter, we urge you to not ignore this, as repeated breaches will mean you will need to pay for all associated legal, management and towing fees to recover your vehicle. For more details, please contact
Dilber Beattie at Superior Strata.

Tennis court:
Aching for a game of tennis? Don't miss out. Make sure you record your time intentions on the booking sheet outside the court. The MYBOS system is now used solely for personal detail updates and maintenance requests.

Garden news:
Green bins: The Council has kindly given us more green waste bins. In fact, we have one for just about every bin bay in the complex. If there isn't one near you, take a look at the Green Waste Bin Location Map - we're sure you'll find one in short walking distance. And to see what you can and can't put in the green bins (or other bins, for that matter), and their pickup dates, take a look at the Council's Green Waste and Bin Collection Guide.

Herb garden: Want to add some fresh flavours to your cooking? In our herb garden at the moment we have a variety of other herbs ready for the picking. To take advantage of our fresh produce, wander down to the area between block 10 (units 123-128) and block 16 (units 149-157). Please pick and use what is available. Also, don't forget to give the garden beds a water and remove any caterpillars. We're hoping to get another hose down there soon, so if you have a spare one to donate, Rachel would love to hear from you. For the location of our herb garden, click here.

Brush Turkeys: While the 2 resident male turkeys (both named Steggles, strangely) have been causing a bit of havoc around the place, their land clearing generally settles down once the warmth negates their need for so much leaf litter. Also, we think it's a small price for living so close to nature. Please be careful while driving near our feathered friends.

Watering: During dry weather, please give any communal gardens near you a water if you can. The more plants we can keep alive, the nicer the place is and the lower our gardening costs will be.

Garden Management Plan:
How lucky are we to have a Gardening Co-ordinator who also happens to be a professional Bush Regenerist? And we're even luckier that she's managed to find a bit of time (well actually, a lot of time) to map out a clear, educated direction for our landscape and gardens over the next 3 years.

In the comprehensive Garden Management Plan that Rachel has put together, you'll find:
- areas under consideration, how they will be managed and a colour coded area map that highlights each area discussed
- descriptions of garden work performed by our Gardening Contractors, Building Manager and local residents
- our tree management plan (which is further discussed in Appendix 4, Tree Inspection Application and Tree Preservation Regulatory Controls, Nov 2010)
- our last Landscape Policy from 1993

In separate appendices you'll also discover:
- Our Backyard Habitat Program - Appendix 3
As many of you know, Linley Cove signed up for this program a couple of years ago to help preserve endangered flora and fauna of the area. This Appendix discusses the Council's recommendations on improving our native diversity: outlining which local native plants to use in the complex, ways of providing natural and safe habitats for wild life, and which weeds to eradicate etc.
- Tree Inspection Application and Tree Preservation Regulatory Controls - Appendix 4
This appendix outlines the Council's rules and regulations governing what trees can be removed in the complex and if/how they they should be pruned. Appendix 4 also covers the considerations taken into account by the Council inspector.
- List of Noxious Weeds from Lane Cove Council - Appendix 5
These weeds will be removed by our gardeners over time.
- Native Plants Indigenous to Lane Cove - Appendix 6
Covering the preferred plants that will be used throughout Linley Cove as our common area gardens and bush is regenerated.
