However, it's important not to be complacent about fire and emergencies, so if you live at Linley Cove you and your family need to be aware of the fire and emergency procedures covered below.

However, it's important not to be complacent about fire and emergencies, so if you live at Linley Cove you and your family need to be aware of the fire and emergency procedures covered below.

What to do if you hear a fire alarm in your stairwell or nearby
- Ensure your children know how to dial 000 in an emergency. Also, that they know how to evacuate the building as directed.
- Exit the whole building calmly and quickly.
- Do not panic, run, push or overtake other residents leaving the building.
- When exiting, please knock on other apartment doors you may pass. Do not stay if they are not answered.
- Please familiarise yourself with the fire exits and exit signs where you live. In an emergency, smoke may prevent you from seeing these signs clearly.
- Take time to familiarise yourself with the fire hydrant in the cupboards near your unit/townhouse. Ensure you understand how to turn the water on and and how the nozzle works.
- Only use fire hydrants and fire extinguishers if you know how and it is safe to do so.
- Remember, it is illegal to use fire hydrants for any other purpose than an emergency.
Where you should evacuate to
- Depending on where you live within the complex, you will need to meet at 1) the Tennis Court, or 2) the Ambulance/Fire truck turning bay.
- When evacuating, exit via your garage area if possible. There will be less likeliness of radiant heat or material that could catch fire.
- Please consult the map below for recommended routes from your unit/townhouse. If the fire/emergency obstructs your safe access along any of these routes, please use commonsense and choose a preferable access route to a safe location.
- If possible, let others know where you are going to help prevent uncertainty about your location and safety.
Contact Fire and Emergency Services - dial 000
- Once you have reached your evacuation meeting point, contact the Fire Brigade/Emergency services by dialling 000.
- Never assume that someone else has called the emergency services. They do not mind receiving 50 calls for the same fire.
- Until the Fire/Emergency Services are on site, follow the instructions of Executive Committee members and Block Representatives.
If the Fire Brigade/Emergency Services are on site
- You must follow any instructions the Fire/Emergency Services provide.
- Please keep noise to a minimum so that Fire/Emergency Services, Executive Committee members and Block Rep's can be heard.
- Do not attempt to remove your vehicle from its garage.
- Do not use your vehicle to evacuate the complex, should the fire/emergency be effecting the complex.
Once the situation has settled down
- Do not return to your building until the Fire Brigade/Emergency Services personnel give the all clear.
- Report any suspicious behaviour to an Executive Committee member or Block Rep immediately. In cases of arson, people who start fires usually stay around.
If you are elderly or a person with disability
- If you need assistance during an emergency, please ensure the Executive Committee and/or your Block Rep's have your details and are aware of your situation.
In your own home
- You are legally obliged to ensure you have the recommended number of working smoke alarms within your home.
- We also recommend you keep a small fire extinguisher and/or fire blanket in an easily accessible place.
- Please have a safe escape plan from your own premises, should a fire occur inside.
- Minimise the number of false alarms by not leaving cooking unattended/burning.
- In the event of stove-top fires, put out the fire with a damp, natural fibre blanket, towel or fire blanket.
- Do not try to put oil fires out with water. Smother the fire with a damp blanket/towel or use a fire extinguisher.
- Once safe, contain any odours and smoke by keeping your doors and windows shut and turning any exhaust fans on.
- Please consider your neighbours if you burn your cooking. Keep doors and windows shut as mentioned.
- IF YOU ARE IN DANGER, EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY AND CALL 000.
